Fairphone is known for its ethical (or fair) approach to smartphone design.
The usual ethical approach is that employees receive a good wage, that building materials for smartphones are safer for the planet and that the phone is sustainable. And they’ve already done a good job with their Fairphone 1, Fairphone 2 and Fairphone 3 smartphones.
Now, to put things in place, Fairphone has together with /e/OS, a degraded Android fork, a separate edition of Fairphone 3 (his latest smartphone) that comes with /e/OS ready to use.
If you weren’t familiar with the mobile operating system, you can read our interview with Gael Duval (founder /e/OS) to find out more.
Although we already have some privacy oriented smartphones like Librem 5, the Fairphone 3 with /e/OS is different from the core. In this article I will try to emphasize the most important things you need to know before you can download the Fairphone 3 with /e/OS.
Data protection and durability Telephone
You may have noticed a privacy smartphone made in some parts of the world, such as Librem 5.
But overall, it seems that Fairphone 3 is the first sustainable phone that cares about privacy and puts it first.
The unlocked /e//OS operating system ensures that your smartphone is not dependent on Google services, among others. Therefore, /e/e/OS should be an excellent choice for Fairphone 3 for private users.
Moreover, the ready-made support for /e/OS was not only a decision of the producer – but also of the Community.
According to your ad you mentioned
For many people, fairer technologies affect not only the device and its components, but also the software that drives the product. When asked which alternative operating system (OS) they prefer for the next Fairphone, Fairphone 3, the members of the Fairphone community voted for /e/OS.
It seems that users prefer /e/OS on their smartphone.

Not only is it unique to residential users, but it is potentially the easiest phone to repair (such as iFixit’s Teardown offering).
Exhibition phone 3 s //OS: Order, prices and availability
Regarding availability – Fairphone 3 s /e/OS can be pre-ordered via the /e/OS online shop for 479,90 euro throughout Europe.
If you are already a Fairphone 3 user, you can also install /e/OS from the build available here
You benefit from a 2-year guarantee and a 14-day right of return.
My thoughts on Fairphone 3 with /e/OS
It is important to remember that your smartphone is aimed at a specific group of consumers. So it’s clear that this doesn’t apply to everyone. Specifications on paper may look good – but not necessarily the best for a certain period of time.
Even if you look at the smartphone market now – specifications and the price/performance ratio are more important than we want for users focused on data protection.
But it’s definitely something impressive, and I think it will be particularly well received by people who don’t want their smartphones spying on them.
With the introduction of the Fairphone 3 with /e/OS, even the less technologically gifted can now enjoy the smartphone experience outside the private sphere.
