LinuxCon Europe: SDK Development for sweetening power architecture

Richard J. Moore of IBM at the Prague LinuxCon the Eclipse-based Linux development kit presents for the Power architecture.

The SDK has existed since early 2011 and will be available soon in version 0.8. It is based on the Eclipse development environment and the CDT and Linux tools. IBM has added some tools, as well as tutorial and documentation and adapted for the Power architecture. The package aims to help developers formerly laborious setting up a toolchain for Linux on Power and help ensure that more software is being ported to this architecture.

The kit uses the Advance Toolchain for Power-6-7-processors and optimized libraries with GCC versions 4.5 and 4.6, which can be installed parallel to the existing versions of the distribution used.

They cover various topics including Decimal Floating Point (DFB) with what is required for financial transactions without rounding error.
