Linux better for games than Windows 8

Drew Bliss (Valve) said at a speech in the Ubuntu Developer Summit, that Linux is more affordable gaming platform than Windows 8.

Some key points of performance:

- Native Steam works well on Ubuntu.
- Cooperation with Canonical has been very productive.
- Linux has everything you need – a good OpenGL, OpenAL, PulseAudio. Well, on the side of a large community of Linux.

List of Linux games for steam

As is known, this month will begin closed beta testing of the Steam client for Linux, in which 1000 people will be able to take part. The main limitation of the test version is that you can only play in one game, the title of which unless remains under a veil of secrecy.

Not assigning even an approximate release date of final release, Valve has already submitted a list of games that will be included in the stable release of Steam. In an added twenty-one game, and the list continues to grow.

Head Valve wants to support Linux, because Windows 8 – Catastrophe

At yesterday’s game event in Seattle, CEO Valve Gabe Newell said that one of the reasons that delays in the spread of Linux on the desktop – is support videogames.

“The big problem that impedes the spread of Linux are games. People do not realize how important the game for customers “- says Newell. “We want the 2500 Games for Steam can be as simple as possible to run on Linux. This reserve strategy. I think that Windows 8 – is a disaster for all the world’s PC. I believe that we will lose some advanced OEM distributors who leave the market. I think many people will lose their profits.
