patchset pf-kernel for Linux v3.8

PF-kernel - kernel patchset for Linux, including patches that are not formally part of the kernel. These patches are:

  • branch-ck with Scheduler processes BFS, designed to improve the interactivity of the system;
  • IO scheduler BFQ, much uluchayuschy interactive system for disk operations;
  • alternate subsystem hibernation TuxOnIce;
  • Patch UKSM, created for deduplication memory pages (useful when, for example, several virtual machines of the same type).

Came the core Linux 3.6

After two and a half months of development a new version of the kernel Linux 3.6.

Among other changes, it should be noted are:

  • the file system and the storage subsystem:
    • btrfs introduced support for quotas for nested volumes and mechanism for implementing incremental backups atomic;
    • ext4 support in the revised quotas, and increased performance for overwriting files;
    • in xfs made many improvements, including improved performance;
    • improved security dereferencing symbolic and hard links – now you can prevent the kernel to follow the links in the directory with the bit «sticky» (for example, / tmp);
    • added a new interface alerts core user-space tools to change the size of the partition, so that the changes are immediately applied the kernel;
    • improved performance combined RAID-arrays, which is composed of disks SSD;
    • Added support for using swap files via NFS;
    • in virtio-scsi driver adds support for hot-plug / off discs;
    • deleted demon pdflush kernel space due to the processing subsystem VFS;

PixelLight 1.0.0 released

Linux 3.5 kernel came out

After two months of development left the next version of the kernel Linux – 3.5.

Of the innovations include:

Released Linux Mint Debian 201,204

Linux Mint developers have announced the release of Linux Mint Debian 201,204.

A choice of two versions – with MATE 1.2/Cinnamon 1.4 or with Xfce 4.8, both in form 32-bit or 64-bit.

Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) is based on Debian Testing, uses a repository Debian, but declared more stable – updates are made available to users after some additional testing and compatibility testing in a “settler» Linux Mint, which formed the so-called «Update Packs» for users.

OpenSSH 6.0: bugfix release

openSUSE 12.1

So today a new version of the popular distro openSUSE 12.1. This is the next release of 11.4 and the second this year. openSUSE 12.1 contains tens of thousands of changes and improvements, it combined the best traditions of building Linux-distributions, combined with the new system tools and powerful cloud technologies.

openSUSE 12.1 :

  • Linux 3.1 Kernel, syslog-ng 3.3, GCC 4.6.2, LLVM v3 and CLANG v3. It is also the first major distro supports a new programming language Go to basic version.
  • systemd with Release 12.1 is the main init-daemon.
  • openSUSE – the first of the distributions that have implemented the tool Snapper , using the new features rapidly growing btrfs file system for managing snapshot.

With a little delay related to lack of necessary patches, published the first version patchseta pf-kernel for a fresh kernel Linux v3.1.

In this version:

  • Stabilization Patch v3.1.1 Linux ;
  • patchset from Kona Kolivasa (Con Kolivas) 3.1.0-CK2 , including a newer revision process scheduler BFSv415;
  • IO scheduler BFQ v3-r1 ;
  • alternate subsystem hibernation TuxOnIce as of v3.1-rc8;
  • patch , which reduces power consumption to the level of Linux v2.6.37.
