Mandriva Powerpack 2011

Mandriva Powerpack 2011 has been officially launched. What is Mandriva Porwerpack? This is a new strategy of Mandriva (which has suffered serious economic) aimed at business and professional audience. It’s a paid version.

It’s a fuller version of Mandriva Linux Free, which also includes proprietary software. Not limited to free software includes a wider hardware support.

Mandriva Powerpack 2011 offers a secure operating system, with good performance and incorporating all the drivers for a good performance from the start.

The desktop environment is KDE based, with some improvements and a new graphic design. One feature that caught my attention is MandrivaSync to synchronize our data with an online server. A trend that more and more systems are incorporated.

It will launch a new version annually but receive updates on a regular basis (it is estimated that every 6 months).

Mandriva Powerpack 2011 published

Linux distributor Mandriva has completed the boxed version of the current Mandriva 2011th

Two and a half months after the release of Mandriva 2011 distribution is now ready to purchase a Power Pack. According to the current publication policy that provides every year a new version of Mandriva, it will give every year a new version of Power Pack, updates will appear every six months.

From Mandriva 2011 includes the distribution only KDE as the desktop environment, some other environments or window managers but partially available in the online repositories. Power Pack includes the downloadable version to find out the “smart desktop” technology, which allows all files previously assigned keywords and to evaluate them.

Mandriva has also added tools that you can secure the system easier, among other settings, which allowed access to websites and applications specific users (for example) children.

Further additions to the free version of the Fluendo DVD player, three months of support via the Web and proprietary programs like Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, Crossover from CodeWeavers, Java, Opera and proprietary drivers.

The distribution includes a revamped installer and KDE SC 4.6.5 updated with some programs, such as a heavily revised file manager Dolphin. The photo management program Digikam was Shotwell replaces 0.10, although the latter is not a KDE application. For Mandriva Shotwell is the new standard for photo management in free software. As editor is PiTiVi 0:14 there when audio player Clementine 0.7.1 instead of Amarok .
