KDE 4.8.5 released

The KDE developers have KDE SC 4.8.5, released the fifth and probably last monthly update of KDE SC 4.8.

Although KDE SC 9.4 is already released, the KDE team updated once again the previous version 4.8. KDE SC 4.8.5 is focused, as always with the monthly updates of the environment and the libraries, just to bug fixes and brings no new features. It is therefore without risk, according to the developers. It is recommended for all users to upgrade their KDE 4.8.

The change log contains the most important fixes and improvements over KDE SC 4.8.4. Not included in this log are the improvements that were made in Kontact, and corrections in Dolphin. In addition, some optimizations performed and completed the translation.

Synology does Zarafa packages on home NAS

On the Storage Devices of the NAS specialist Synology users can now run Zarafa open source groupware support and sync with Outlook so that mobile devices.

Tiny Core 4.4 released

The minimalist Tiny Core Linux distribution, Linux has been released in version 4.4 and including updated versions of the packages included, bringing the kernel improvements and innovations in the handling of boot parameters.

Tiny Core 4.4 is based on a 3.0.21 kernel and runs completely in memory. The main novelty of this version in addition to an upgraded system, the advanced parameters at startup. Cinnamon 1.4 released

The team around Cinnamon, a fork of Gnome Shell, has released a new version. New in 1.4 are Cinnamon including a “Hot Corner”, a recruitment panel and a derivative of Alacarte Menu Editor.

Webconverger 10.2 saves on packages

Webconverger, a Debian-based Linux distribution for Internet kiosks, is available in an updated version 10.2.

Support for Debian 5.0 will end in February

Open Source Press gives away 500 Ubuntu packages to schools

Arch Linux is an unsigned packages

he Arch Linux developers have released the distribution’s package manager Pacman in version 4.0.1, which can deal with signatures.

The lack of cryptographic signature for software packages, as is common in many Linux distributions has long been a much discussed and criticized sore spot with Arch Linux. Now Dan McGee and the other developers Pacman’s long-cherished plans are implemented. Pacman and other package tools like makepkg can now deal with signatures that prove the origin and integrity of binary packages.
