The new version 1.5 of the process control OpenAPC was equipped with an improved interface and processes can now also control without the GUI.

OpenAPC is a cross-platform and free software available, which for and for the visualization of processes in industry and manufacturing process control is provided primarily, and therefore already in the machine is used. The open architecture of automation software and well-documented software interface also offer many possibilities in the private and semi-professional. The software package will contain an MMI Editor, in which complex user interfaces can be created easily and intuitively with the mouse. All standard GUI elements like buttons, check boxes, sliders, input fields and other support, enhancements are easily retrofitted to plug-ins.

The created GUI elements can then be in a logic editor using a kind of block diagram functionally linked to each other. Again, the functionality through proprietary and included plugins are enhanced. Some of the existing plugins allow it to communicate with other programs or devices. Thus, it is also possible without programming, their own small applications to create. Also, there are different ways of its own programs or scripts to dock with the system to control such complex processes.

In the currently available version 1.5 in addition to the MMI-editor and the logic editor has been improved by the creation of surfaces and flow charts easier. These now include one Foldbar on which there is direct access to the available GUI and logic elements, so that is no longer the detour will be chosen from the context menu must.

The second major change is the runtime environment. Here is a new player version was introduced, which allows us to execute projects that have no MMI and include only a control flow. This new player does not require an X server and can be used for control tasks are performed without a graphical output on computers.

Additional factors have been improved several minor details and errors corrected, what the change log more detailed information as is. The software itself is available as “freeware” in various formats and for various operating systems available for download, the sources are under GPL or also available as freeware and can be easily adapted and even changed.
