MATE Desktop 1.4 supports Bluetooth and Dropbox

The Gnome-2-MATE Fork is available in version 1.4. The developers say mate as “traditional” desktop environment and want to address all of the Gnome users who are dissatisfied with Gnome third.

Mate 1.4 brings many improvements in addition to numerous bug fixes. Thus integrated the developer mate-keyring and library mate keyring completely and made the package available dropbox. With the extension for the file manager allows users to Caja provided by Dropbox cloud storage integrated into the desktop. Files can now communicate with other devices via Bluetooth.

The screensaver supports MATE conducted via GDM user change. If compositing is enabled in MATE Marco, users can use Alt + Tab to quickly switch between different windows. In MATE 1.4 the icon theme Faenza and the character table mate-character-map were added. The GNOME library libwnck (Window Navigator Construction Kit) has been forked to libmatewnck.

Released Linux Mint Debian 201,204

Linux Mint developers have announced the release of Linux Mint Debian 201,204.

A choice of two versions – with MATE 1.2/Cinnamon 1.4 or with Xfce 4.8, both in form 32-bit or 64-bit.

Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) is based on Debian Testing, uses a repository Debian, but declared more stable – updates are made available to users after some additional testing and compatibility testing in a “settler» Linux Mint, which formed the so-called «Update Packs» for users.

Mate Desktop 1.2 released

Release MATE 1.2 environment

Presented by the next release of the desktop MATE 1.2 – The GNOME 2 fork that provides an intuitive and attractive desktop.

Here are the main changes and improvements in this version:

  • Numerous bug fixes;
  • All configuration files have been moved to ~ / .config / mate;

Linux Mint 12 “Lisa”

Linux Mint 12 with Gnome 3.2 and Mate

Linux Mint, a popular Ubuntu derivative, has appeared in version 12 and goes by the name Lisa. Linux Mint is considered to be very user friendly and comes with many of their own tools.

Linux Mint 12 is based on Ubuntu 11:10 and a 3.0 kernel. After the developer at the latest versions still refused to use Gnome 3 desktop environment, this version now comes with Gnome 3.2, and the Mint Gnome Shell Extensions (MGSE). MGSE is a level that you can use with the Gnome user in the “traditional way”. Either all conventional elements are activated or only certain parts like the bottom panel, the applications menu or window list. Users who do not want to miss the famous Gnome can, on the gnome-2-Fork Mate draw. This is either included on the installation DVD or can be installed using the meta-meta-package mint-mate.

The default search engine in Linux Mint 12 is DuckDuckGo , which stores neither user data nor how many people based searches other search engines. Normally come DuckDuckGo search results from Yahoo / Windows Live, users can be using the! Bang syntax, however, other search engines or sites use for their searches, such as Google or Youtube. In addition, Linux Mint is a new business model and supports only standard search engines, which involve the distribution of their revenues. Users, however, are free to install other search engines.
