Linux kernel 3.3 released

by admin ·

Linux initiator Linus Torvalds has released version 3.3 of the Linux kernel. A number of Android subsystems have been integrated, so that the difference to the Android kernel reduced.

In spite of extensive changes in turn is the patch from Linux 2.3 to 3.3 slightly smaller than previous versions. About 60% of the account changes, according to Torvalds to the driver, which is less than usual. 20% relate to changes in the architecture and 20% of the rest
Linux 3.3 brings some subsystems in the kernel, which were designed by Google Android. It is still not all of Android over, but some is in its present form does not even get into the kernel. However, it is conceivable that the developers agree on common functionality that reduces the remaining differences to the Android kernel on.

Out Music Pause Daemon

by admin ·

Yesterday there were the source on github open source project musicpaused. The main purpose of the program – to stop playing music when removing the headphones, just as is done on mobile devices running Android and iOS. Many would like to have the same functionality on their laptops and computers, and it is now possible. It can also display notifications on your desktop when inserting and removing the earphone jack, microphone, and a few others. Similar programs for Linux did not exist before.

The program consists of three daemons:

Ttylinux switched to version 10.0

by admin ·

The minimalistic Linux distribution Ttylinux is available in version 10.0.

With this release, all architecture-specific issues consistently receive the code name and version number 10 bazooka – even if that means in some cases, a paradoxical counting. With BusyBox 1.19.3, 1.42 and iptables 1.4.12 E2fsprogs there updated software.

Ttylinux only requires 8 MB for the system partition and already runs on i486 machines with 28 Mbytes of RAM. The new version 10.0 is available for i486, i686, x86_64, PowerPC, and WRTU54G-TM (MIPS) available. At an output for the ARM Board Beaglebone the developer Douglas Jerome is still working.

LFS 1.7 released

by admin ·

Linux From Scratch (LFS), one of the most popular distributions for users who want to create their own distribution, was released in version 7.1. Changes include updates to the packages and corrections.

Linux From Scratch (LFS) does not represent a distribution rather than a guide to creating a GNU / Linux system from source in the form of a document. The book shows in a step-by-step guide on how to create a Linux-only system on the basis of source packages, and would so give you a deep insight into the structure and procedures of the operating system. In addition, many LFS provides necessary knowledge to create a Linux system to very different requirements, such as in the embedded space to adapt.

Faster compression for Btrfs

by admin ·

The new Linux file system Btrfs has recently dominated the compression process and Snappy LZ4 that save space and are fast.

Within the last week, two developers for the Linux kernel file system Btrfs have implemented new compression method. First, Andi Kleen has on the mailing list a patch released that developed by Google Snappy implemented algorithm. The procedure puts more emphasis on fast (de) compression rather than large compression ratios. Because the use of file system code in the Linux kernel must be implemented, Kleen has integrated the first Snappy code from C + + and ported to C and the kernel, before he wrote the actual code Btrfs. Snappy the code in the kernel is now also other kernel subsystems.
