In our own thing: Linux New Media launches Android users

The first Android users, the new monthly of Linux New Media AG, is now available on newsstands. The first edition is devoted to focus in the IFA-News and many other smart phones and tablets.

Android users is aimed at smartphone and tablet users and all those interested in Android. The book presents new products and test them and also app-games and ideas do not come too short. For all those who bring a bit more experience with Android, is our power-user tips section on how to use its Android device, and optimally informed about details of the system.

AMD launches platform for automating the testing process

AMD has released an open platform for automating all aspects of the test code. The framework is named Tapper, is licensed under the BSD. The platform is a broad set of Perl-scripts that developers from using AMD for years, but only now decided to publish in open access. The product is already possible to test, get the source on GitHub .

Tapper provides a set of modules for the automation of routine operations, such as the launch of the network, change system settings, configuration, and the inclusion of Xen / KVM and some other special tools for testing and comparing their results and also provides for managing Web-based interface. To operate the user also provides a shell that supports Perl and Python. In the package there is support for such a product as Autotest , mainly used for the testing of nuclear Linux.

Collectd Launches Version 5 and new plugins

Collectd, a daemon for collecting system statistics is available in version 5.0.0 with new features.

The new release breaks for the first time since 2007, the backward compatibility. For users upgrading from version 4.x to make, so there is a migration guide .

There are also new enhancements for the software: The AMQP-plugin is used to exchange data with other collectd instances and external software. Here comes the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol is used, which allows, among other point-to-multipoint communication. The LPAR plugin collects data on the virtual CPUs of IBM Power Systems, the rediscount plugin collects data on the use of key-value storage Redis, Web 2.0 applications is used in. Also new is the Varnish plugin , the statistics on the same reverse proxy catches. The Apache plug-in is now available for IBM HTTP Server.
