Zero image: fast and lossless image compression

by admin ·

The KDE developers Christoph Feck has image zero (“iz” spoken, “easy”) presented a lossless compression algorithm for images, in addition to a high compression rate and can still score with a high speed.

image zero should be used especially where users often open and save images, some with image editing programs. Information about the losses that occur for example in JPG images to get at, Feck evaluated in recent months, several lossless image compression algorithms. In their comparison in Lossless Compression Benchmark photo he was disappointed with PNG and JPEG-LS. On the one hand, they worked him some too slow, on the other hand, they were provided with patents. Consequently, he decided to make it better and initiated zero image, a high-performance, lossless codec for RGB pictures.

Mandriva Powerpack 2011

by admin ·

Mandriva Powerpack 2011 has been officially launched. What is Mandriva Porwerpack? This is a new strategy of Mandriva (which has suffered serious economic) aimed at business and professional audience. It’s a paid version.

It’s a fuller version of Mandriva Linux Free, which also includes proprietary software. Not limited to free software includes a wider hardware support.

Mandriva Powerpack 2011 offers a secure operating system, with good performance and incorporating all the drivers for a good performance from the start.

The desktop environment is KDE based, with some improvements and a new graphic design. One feature that caught my attention is MandrivaSync to synchronize our data with an online server. A trend that more and more systems are incorporated.

It will launch a new version annually but receive updates on a regular basis (it is estimated that every 6 months).
