At last week’s meeting in Nuremberg developers Plasma Workspaces, which was defined a work plan for the upcoming release of a new version of the desktop environment KDE.

So, the upcoming changes:

• Switching to KDE Frameworks 5 and Qt5.
• The inclusion of Wayland in the list of supported servers. Most of the work done in Qt5, but remains an unsolved problem c Oxygen.  (more…)

Coffice (Calligra Office or coffee-in-office) – a new project to port Calligra Office on mobile platforms. Support will be platforms Android, Blackberry 10, Jolla Sailfish OS and Ubuntu Phone, as well as document formats ISO OpenDocument (ODF) and different formats Microsoft Office (both binary and XML). At the moment, Google Play available alpha version of Android from 2.1 inclusive. ownCloud – a very interesting system for installation on a personal server, used to store, view and sync digital content (photos, videos, documents), to exchange data (you can implement network access to files and folders between users of the system as well as provide them guest access). Access to data via the web-interface or via WebDAV. There is a client for all popular desktop and mobile OS. Included in many Linux distributions, it is very easy to install and is automatically updated with the system.

The new version of program to manage a collection of photos, the only free 3.0.0 digiKam Manager photographs in which the face recognition function that allows you to automatically detect pictures involving certain people and assign them the appropriate tags. The new release fixes bug 131, as well as integrated works created as part of the Google Summer of Code 2012.

Among the most interesting improvements:

The company introduced the release Digia IDE Qt Creator 2.6, designed to create cross-platform applications using the library Qt. Supports the development of both classical programming in C + +, and the use of language QML to define scenarios that use JavaScript, and the structure and parameters of the interface elements are defined CSS-like blocks. Qt Creator source code distributed under license LGPL.

October 15, 2012, a new release of Plasma Active – GUI for handheld devices. Plasma Active is focused on touch screen with a diagonal of which is optimal for tablets. October 16, 2012 on FTP-servers KDE came with source tarballs KDevelop 4.4.0 – C / C + + IDE, which is part of the desktop environments KDE SC.

Among the changes worth noting:

• improve performance;
• small changes in the interface;
• added to the so-called You’re Welcome Page , designed for novice users;
• many new plug-ins;
• marked improvement plugins, such as CMake, CVS and Patch Review.

The KDE developers have KDE SC 4.9.1, the first monthly update of KDE SC 4.9 released.

The KDE team has the first update of KDE SC 4.9 released. KDE SC 4.9.1 is focused, as always in the monthly updates of the environment and the libraries entirely on fixing bugs and brings no new features. It is therefore risk according to the developers. It is recommended that all users update their KDE 4.9.

A change log is not available this time. According to the KDE developers, the most important improvements in KDE 4.9.1 have been incorporated into the PIM suite contact. However, there were several corrections in the Dolphin file manager. In addition, some improvements have been made and added the translations.
