Mozilla has lost on its own judgment for the fight against WebM and H.264 as the primary video format on the web. As the mobile versions of the browser can not rely on Flash, Mozilla will support the H.264 hardware decoding.

After Google bought the company and the On2 video codec as WebM was released , Mozilla supported efforts to make WebM also the preferred format for HTML5 video. But with the HTML5 standardization in this respect there was no agreement . How, then, Brendan Eich of Mozilla notes , H.264 has won the Web and in the mobile space combat. In the latter, H.264 is a standard format, and the Web are still a lot more videos in the H.264 format to find than others. Even Google has not even half of the YouTube videos to WebM changed, and calibration doubts that it will be even more. For all the videos, was built in the advertising, H.264. Whether this is due to technical reasons, is not apparent from the blog.

Mozilla will integrate and share any H.264 implementation in Firefox and its other products, because this could result in license fees would be paid for the patents, which Mozilla refuses strictly. On the desktop, the flash player is available as a workaround – and if this will continue no longer be downloaded for Linux is available, so Google Chrome will have an integration of the Flash player, which can be used by Mozilla.

On mobile devices the situation is quite different for Mozilla. The mobile sector measures at Mozilla for the future highest value. There is H.264 but usually decoded by the hardware, so that the H.264 licensing already paid by the hardware manufacturer. The browser must then be controlled only the hardware.

The consequence is that Mozilla will support H.264 in this way. It is possible for Mozilla does not help when you need to provide users with an environment that is capable of playing web videos easily. Without this functionality would be Mozilla not competitive. Mozilla will work but will continue for an open web with no patent barriers. The next battle that is beat, is WebRTC freely available to keep. The same statement makes the Mozilla chairman Mtchell Baker in their announcement of the change in direction .

So we waited for “the ten.” This release marks yet another milestone in the development that we all love the appearance of a browser version with extended support (ESR). The tenth version of the ESR will be maintained in parallel with the development of the main branch and will include security fixes until the 18th version ( tentative plan for future releases ). In parallel, released two versions of 10 and 10 ESR (the difference in the channel updates and logos in the Help → About Firefox).

In addition to this, of course important for all events, the latest version boasts the following changes:

“Next” button has now become optional and only appears when needed, freeing up space so critical to the horizontal;

adds support for anti-aliasing in the graphics output via component WebGL;

Support Fullscreen API: YouTube HTML5 now able to expand the window to full screen video output;

declared support for CSS3-dimensional transformations;

new element <bdi> to isolate bi-directional text;

built-in tools for inspection of components with support for highlighting the selected item;

Improved support for IndexedDB API;

simplified configuration synchronization history and bookmarks with mobile versions of Firefox.

From the translator: two bonus points in HTML5 Test Suite , 5% acceleration in the SunSpider Benchmark , support caustics WebGL Water Simulation and once again earned the support of accelerometers (in the ninth was broken, probably a glitch assembly).

Successful updates!

The specifications are still in the early stages of development, but Mozilla has already started work on a test version.

The new API allows you to perform tasks such as mixing of audio streams, dynamic overlay audio and video, software generation audio streams. The current version of specifications aimed at working with sound, but in future they will be added to support and work with video, including features such as QR code recognition and augmented reality in web applications.

A distinctive feature of the new standard is its focus on the full compatibility with existing standards.
Most likely, the patches to implement support for MediaStream Processing, first get a “nightly build” Firefox. When the standard is fully tested, it will support and in stable releases of the browser.

HORLANDE Stephen, who is responsible for the Firefox development of the graphical interface has insights into his work and presents a prototype of the surface which could in future be used.

Again and again give the Mozilla developers interested users and developers insight into the future as it could meet the users in the coming versions of Firefox. The now published by Stephen HORLANDE prototype of a possible version of the Firefox browser to show a completely redesigned toolbar, which continues to dispense with menu-like elements, but fades in other control components. Shown to be possible solutions for Mac OS X and Windows. A Linux version should look similar but according to Paul Rouget first it was important to resolve various technical problems.

The new interface of the popular browser is in direct comparison to the current version of a little tidier.

Stephen HORLANDE shall waive for many years involved in the visual design of the user in the draft completely on the forward button. The first is to be displayed when there actually is content that can be controlled. The Reload button to find their place in the command line, which waives a search line and delegates apparently looking like Chrome directly to the input line.

The upper surface area of show window controls and the tabs. Depending on the space sector in the full screen view can also be added to the URL entry line. In addition the range depending on the system also contains the menu and other controls.

When and if the new UI is introduced however is not yet clear. Given the technical problems still exist in Linux and the proposals put forward until now a release in the next or the next version of Firefox is rather unlikely.
