Fedora installer gets new look

by admin ·

As part of an overall improvement in user friendliness, the Red Hat designer Mairin Duffy plans for the transformation of the Anaconda installer presented.

The redesign is intended to facilitate interested computer users to go from non-binding Try using live CD for long-term use Fedora from the hard disk. So take the installer detects an important role in expanding the Fedora community.

The current wizard interface guides the user straight in about 30 screens through the installation process.

The redesign, however sees hub-and-spoke structure than before: Starting with an overview page, the user arrives at different configuration dialogs and return to its starting point. Reasonable defaults are designed to ensure that the user can simply start the installation by pressing a button to get a usable installation (no special requests). LoseThos

by admin ·

LoseThos is an operating system 64-bit PC, complete, free, and created a completely independent basis. In reality, this is not a Linux distribution ( Ubuntu , Mandriva , Fedora , etc..) and has no basic Linux. It is an alternative atypical all existing systems, able to fully exploit the latest multi-core processors that are in this case from a x86 platform 64 (Core i7, Core 2 Duo, Pentium D, …).

However LoseThos is a somewhat unusual in that it runs completely counter to the current standards in terms of GUI, usability and design, where Mac OS X reigns supreme. LoseThos is indeed much more reference to some of the 80 OS using a very basic GUI or text command lines predominate. This interface is represented in a resolution of 640×480 in 16 colors, where current standards are more like the Full HD 1920×1080 in 24 million colors. The author of the software specify the reasons for this choice by citing the drivers and hardware accelerated graphics cards are difficult to integrate, or using resources unnecessarily to its use.

First impressions of Fedora 15 + GnomeShell

by admin ·

On Tuesday last, at last my wait is over, and I could download and install Fedora 15 on my team. I’m not going to make a comprehensive analysis that brings the news dae, but first impressions Post-Installation.

If we think, in a transition from Fedora 14 to version 15, if you use Gnome you’ll notice a huge difference (unless you’ve ventured to use Gnome3 in ArchLinux LiveCD or any of that could be downloaded from the website Gnome).

Beginning because it brings Gnome2 default Fedora 14 is not very nice … I tried several times to go over to KDE because of this, because even by putting themes, icons, etc … still looked very ugly. Something different in Ubuntu, where the default Gnome was already a little “tuning.”

With Gnome3 not suffer from this, I had used in ArchLinux immediately passed to the repository [extra], and without fear or anything, it is really pleasing to the eye. He who comes in Fedora 15, has almost no changes (only the system integration), some applications pre-installed, but nothing special.

If we talk about performance in general, obviously, you know GnomeShell not run on any computer. In mine is fluid but two cases. The first, using any Java application (Sea JDownloader the example) makes me slow down the environment to the point, if you want to use that application for a long time, I have to spend to Fallback Mode (For those who do not know, is the Gnome3 interface without GnomeShell).

Second, GoogleTalk chat plugin swallowed my processor when I make a video call … but it is a strange behavior, because sometimes it’s all fluid, but I can not open anything else, say a video on Youtube (Yes, I know, with that combination any computer with Linux is dying) and my computer becomes unusable .. . not even open the System Monitor to end it slows down these processes, is one of two solutions, first, be patient and wait till you get the opportunity to open your chat session and finish, then close and wait Youtube normalization process … and the second reboot.

But if we talk in general terms, improvements in performance are noted, em my laptop, I feel a great reduction in speed, and temperature does not rise much, and most importantly (What ever happened to me with KDE) I have I always +70% CPU consumption.
