Ubuntu for Android Announced

Canonical announced a project for Ubuntu Android . The aim of the project – launched a full-fledged desktop from Ubuntu to Android-smartphone with a docking station.

According to Canonical, mobile devices have sufficient resources to run full desktop applications. Therefore, a more impractical to carry around (eg from home to work) heavy laptop – enough to take your phone and connect it to the dock and get a full-fledged workstation.

Balsam Professional 1.12 announced

Upcoming release of OpenSUSE 12.1 the middle of next month, open-slx also announced an updated version of its Linux distribution. “Balsam Professional 12.1″ on 11 November 2011 and, thus replacing the previously published as “openSUSE box” or “known OpenSuse Retail Edition” boxed product.

Professional balm wants is an anabolic on OpenSuse software product for end users to combine the software for desktops, laptops and servers with a range of information and professional user support.

The box provides a simplified installation and comes with additional software. For this, the manufacturer is working with the openSUSE community in a coordinated product to end users. The mission of open-slx is to provide a user-friendly system for existing and new end users, working closely with so-called upstream communities together.

All the best – 15 years of KDE

Exactly 15 years ago announced Ettrich to the project to create the place of many window managers and mature applications with a unified desktop environment.

As Ettrich on 14 October 1996, the work on the KDE desktop initiated , he probably could not have foreseen that the project would be so very long. In his previous announcement, he set out his basic ideas and called for interested programmers to collaborate.

That as a basis for the planned desktop environment chose the Qt toolkit from Trolltech, which was at that time, not free software, but by far not only found acceptance and led to the establishment of competing projects, including Gnome. After a few years, as had been done with the problem of the license, the projects were too far gone to pull a setting even consider.

According Ettrich were then Linux already some good free or inexpensive applications available. With a single, well ausssehenden Linux desktop environment would meet the needs of almost anyone. The hope of Ettrich ultimately fulfilled, but the KDE project, but grew up to be one of the most important projects of the free software world.

IPCop 2.0.0 announced

Some will remember the tutorial posted on Linux Zone in explaining how to go riding with your own IPCop firewall hardware, along with a number of addons that markers considered more versatile as, for example, url proxy cache or filter. Mageia celebrates first birthday

A year ago, as under the name “Magaia” a community-driven fork of Mandriva released. Various announcements and a release later the project is now celebrating its first birthday.

Having already for months in the community around the Mandriva distribution simmering and increasingly loud voices were after a fork, the Community announced a year ago, the foundation of a new distribution. Under the name Mageia initiated project underwent several changes since. From September to November, it began to build the infrastructure, people gather and discuss important components.

VMware Workstation 8 announced

The new version of VMware Workstation since the last version contains over 50 new features, including a new interface, remote connectivity and increased performance.

With more than 50 new features, the manufacturer has VMware Workstation 8 equipped. Among the most striking here is the redesigned graphical interface. It was extended to simpler menus, live thumbnails, better screens and setting a new virtual library for improved searching.

With VMware Workstation 8 can now also be set up remote connections to current vSphere Workstation, VMware and VMware to host vCenter. The solution also supports under the name “Share VMs’ the distributed work and upload it to vSphere. This allows 8 Workstation VMs by drag and drop from the desktop interface to vSphere move. Java SE for IOS and Android

A group of independent developers has found a way to run a normal Java applications on Apple iPad and Android devices.

As Mario newborn, one of three developers, announced the group was looking for a way to Java applications run on the Apple iPad. Now she has found a way and presented as a prototype. Until this is fully functional but will pass on their information probably for some time.
