Recently, this question was posed by monsterb of linuxcranks.info to the Linux community. He is obviously not the first to ask this question, while writing this, I was listening to the Linux Outlaws podcast where they discuss a very long thread on their forums asking this very question. I think it is an interesting question, and decided to answer it here in a blog post, and ask you the reader, how did you discover Linux?
My story starts similarly to many others I think, in that I discovered Linux through a friend who gave me a Red Hat CD. Where my story deviates is unlike most people, I know the exact day that I began my Linux journey.

I was watching a screencast at Linux Crazy ( Podcast 51) the other day where comprookie2000 gave a tour of his home network using a graphic. I have wanted a graphic depicting the topology of my home network for my site but never got around to figuring out how to make one. Watching the screencast got me interested again.
Looking at David’s (comprookie2000) graphic made me feel for the guy. It is rare I find someone will less artist talent than myself. No no disrespect but wow is it bad. 44.9k file size for a 400×225 pixel image? Ouchie for the people that visit his site with limited bandwidth. In all fairness, I was not able to reduce it much with my limited skills using the “.png” file type. While no fan of “.gif”, it will reduce this image by 50%.

While having a dedicated server is great, the cost of running it, not so much. I’ve had this server for 18 months now and done very little with it, other than run a few personal sites. The original plan was find things that might help offset or even pay for the servers upkeep. I never got around to getting that done. I need to find ways to offset the cost, and will be looking at ways to do just that in the near future.
Don’t expect to see banner ads or anything, that isn’t going to happen. However some change is in the air and will arrive soon.

For music-producer: Linux Multi Media Studio (LMMS) provides the user with an all-round package to einzuspielen own music to mix and post process. Under the title ” Running Windows in Linux malware “Antivirus vendors McAfee has published on his blog a test that will show that, worms and other parasites for have been written to run Windows on Linux viruses.
Now panic is appropriate? Hardly. For the simple trick is to Wine: First, according to testers the tool under Ubuntu 8.04 installed and then set up a number of pests. The result should hardly surprise anyone. Why should Windows programs run under Wine but not a pest?

In less than an hour I’ll been on my way to FUDcon F11, in Boston. While I tried I wasn’t able to complete my first Linuxkast in time to post before leaving. Maybe I finish it over the weekend.
Well see you at FUDcon, or see you Monday
.
I been thinking about adding a picture a day to the site, a 365 project if you will. Reading a post by another blogger today with his own 365 project reminded me I need to get mine started. I am not sure exactly how I want to present them. Do I make a blog post for each one or just add one to the front page side column everyday. I will figure it out later.
Without further delay my 01 and 02 pics.

Kommando Linux turned one today.
While I didn’t do everything I wanted to on the site over this year, I had fun doing the things I did get done, and learned one or two things along the way. Let’s hope I apply some of it this year
.
I’ve started something new two weeks ago. I’ve decided every Tuesday I will install and try out a new distribution for the week. This experience will be used to create distro reviews for my weekly (on Wednesday) Linuxkasts. Yes, I will have the first episode up sometime later today.
This weeks choice is OpenSolaris 2008.11. I installed it yesterday without much trouble, though far to many licence’s to read. This is my first experience with OpenSolaris, and I am intrigued by what I’ve seen so far, but, Sun makes it clear they have a different definition of the word open. With only a day in the seat, it’s to early to make any conclusions about the “open-ness” of OpenSolaris, however, all these EULA’s are cause for concern and if I see to many more of them I am likely not finish out the week.
