On the just launched in San Francisco VMworld 2012 presents VMware vCloud in the Cloud Suite version 5.1. Including Vsphere, vCloud Director, vCloud Networking and Security and vCenter Site Recovery Manager – all components carry the new version number.

With two new SSD accelerated SAN servers Overland expanded its portfolio.

Citrix has released its server virtualization platform, XenServer in version 6.0. The virtualization solution is based on the Xen hypervisor 4.1.

XenServer 6.0 was equipped with several new features. The Storage Gateway technology has been replaced in many places. As a result, data replication, deduplication, Snapshot and cloning between storage arrays and the associated disaster recovery now work with any hardware iSCSI HBA or storage repository and is no longer dependent on Windows VM. GPU pass-through makes it possible to provide virtual machines (VMs) to a physical GPU, and the Rolling pool upgrade wizard is intended to make to update existing XenServer instance.

Open vSwitch is the standard network stack. The XenServer Host now supports up to 1TB of storage and guests may use up to 16 virtual processors and 128 GB of memory are provided.
