McAfee: Windows running under Linux pests

by admin ·

Under the title ” Running Windows in Linux malware “Antivirus vendors McAfee has published on his blog a test that will show that, worms and other parasites for have been written to run Windows on Linux viruses.

Now panic is appropriate? Hardly. For the simple trick is to Wine: First, according to testers the tool under Ubuntu 8.04 installed and then set up a number of pests. The result should hardly surprise anyone. Why should Windows programs run under Wine but not a pest?

My 365 Project

by admin ·

I been thinking about adding a picture a day to the site, a 365 project if you will. Reading a post by another blogger today with his own 365 project reminded me I need to get mine started. I am not sure exactly how I want to present them. Do I make a blog post for each one or just add one to the front page side column everyday. I will figure it out later.

Without further delay my 01 and 02 pics.

Year 1 – Kommando Linux

by admin ·

Kommando Linux turned one today.

While I didn’t do everything I wanted to on the site over this year, I had fun doing the things I did get done, and learned one or two things along the way. Let’s hope I apply some of it this year :) .

OpenSolaris 2008.11 on the test machine.

by admin ·

I’ve started something new two weeks ago. I’ve decided every Tuesday I will install and try out a new distribution for the week. This experience will be used to create distro reviews for my weekly (on Wednesday) Linuxkasts. Yes, I will have the first episode up sometime later today.

This weeks choice is OpenSolaris 2008.11. I installed it yesterday without much trouble, though far to many licence’s to read. This is my first experience with OpenSolaris, and I am intrigued by what I’ve seen so far, but, Sun makes it clear they have a different definition of the word open. With only a day in the seat, it’s to early to make any conclusions about the “open-ness” of OpenSolaris, however, all these EULA’s are cause for concern and if I see to many more of them I am likely not finish out the week.

Site changes

Forgive the mess as I make a few changes to the look of the site. I’m doing it all myself and learning in the process, so if it’s slow going you’ll understand why. :)

TR2N (Tron 2) , I can’t wait!

by admin ·

By now the internets is buzzing with the news about the bootlegged trailer for TR2N (Tron2 ). It’s a really bad cellular phone video, however, what it lacks in quality it more than makes up for in content. I would like to say here is the link to view the video, I can’t. Disney would prefer you not see it and has moved quickly to take it down where they find it. Google is your friend and wont let you down.

Tron is for me what it is for a lot of people, it’s the movie that got me interested in computers. I named my first computer Tron and my first server Sark (I was saving MCP for the dual cpu I was building at the time). So it’s fair to say that I hold this movie in high regard.

My first thought on hearing about the trailer was “#$%#! hollywood will screw it up.” They have a long history of taking anything good and ruining it in order to extract every last dollar. After seeing the trailer however, I am hopeful.

Now we wait and see.
