To begin with, offers everything that brings desktop-file and appears on the menu, to consider the application, and everything else – upgrading the system. In the future, may be introduced additional clues in the metadata packages. Since most of the packages does not include desktop-files, it is obvious that any updates, including, for example, installing a different kernel, will require two reboots just to install the package.

In addition, the system is implemented downloads updates in the background, notifying the user about available updates only when everything is ready to install them. Management mechanism loads the system has not provided updates, rather, it is left to the mercy of future high-level managers updates in GNOME.

Among developers Fedora distribution discussion broke out on the distribution of transition “sliding” model updates, similar to that used in the distributions Arch, Gentoo, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.
It is worth noting that at present there is a special Fedora repository for “moving” updates – Rawhide. But, according to developers, to always use this repository is almost unusable, as falling within a package are often unstable, and upgrade of critical components (such as kernel and system libraries) from Rawhide can simply bring the system inoperable and sometimes lead loss of data .

Perhaps the most interesting suggestion , voiced in the debate, was the division of packet distribution base into three categories: core distribution (kernel Linux, glibc, gcc, system libraries, shell), the system components (X11, KDE, GNOME, XFCE, Perl, Python ) and custom components (office suites, web browsers, image editors, and everything else). The core of the distribution is proposed to update every 12-18 months, the system components – every six months, and not related to the large number of dependencies your applications updated as new versions are released,
after a minimum of stabilization in the test repository.

At the moment, the debate continues. The most obvious difficulty in introducing a new model – a severe shortage of human resources. The existing community of developers too loaded more pressing concerns distribution, so there is a chance that the activity around innovation will not go past the discussion in the mailing.
