Proposed to replace MySQL to MariaDB in the beginning of the development cycle Fedora 19. MySQL will continue to be available for at least one more release, but MariaDB will now be the default. In addition, support will be a parallel installation of both packages on the same machine, will have to choose just one.

The Fedora Project has released the alpha version of Fedora 17th In addition to the new desktops KDE SC 4.8 and Gnome 4.3 can be found in the alpha version, many improvements in virtualization and clustering.

In the vote on the name of the next version could the supporters of the name “Miracle Beefy triumph” after several attempts. Suitable to take notice of the alpha version of Fedora 17 humorous reference to that. The alpha version already contains all the planned features of the new version, partly but not completely. But it should be sufficiently complete and stable for initial testing.

Among developers Fedora distribution discussion broke out on the distribution of transition “sliding” model updates, similar to that used in the distributions Arch, Gentoo, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.
It is worth noting that at present there is a special Fedora repository for “moving” updates – Rawhide. But, according to developers, to always use this repository is almost unusable, as falling within a package are often unstable, and upgrade of critical components (such as kernel and system libraries) from Rawhide can simply bring the system inoperable and sometimes lead loss of data .

As always, the community responsible for the development of Fedora brings the newest GNU / Linux, implemented in the best manner and always focused on ease of use of the distribution, both by the more experienced as the most novice.

The open-source solutions provider Red Hat has announced that he now accepts applications for the Fedora Scholarship program. In the program, students may participate around the world that support the Fedora Project or other open-source project with contributions.

The Fedora Scholarship program this year goes into the fifth round.

Under the program each year a high school student who has received a contribution to the Fedora project and made his studies in the fall.

The scholarship is worth $ 2,000 annually and is paid over a period of four years. If the grant recipient will attend a FUDCon, Red Hat takes over for the duration of the scholarship for travel and accommodation expenses to the nearest event.

The scholarship is designed to encourage young people to use free software and support with contributions. “The Fedora Scholarship recognizes young talent in their quest for innovation. After a year working in the Linux distribution with Fuduntu 14:12 Release has been on its own legs.

What started as a fork of Fedora 14 is now independent and can be built with its own tool chain (self-hosting), write the blog entry Fuduntu-makers in the new release. Red Hat’s Fedora community Linux is released in version 16, code-named “Verne”.
