Tent – retrying an open decentralized social network

by admin ·

Tent want anyone in a position, his own tent set up (a tent-server), and to invite others to communicate with other tents.

Tent is an open source platform for the networking of different social networks that allows the user full control of their data and posts. The currently visible part of Tent is Tent.is . This is the first application that is built on Tent.io. The latter is the protocol behind Tent, is based on HTTP (S) and uses JSON as the data format.
Tent.is is the first of many possible Tent servers. These servers can run either the users themselves or you can use an existing server (as Tent.is). The Tent server can communicate. Users can take their identity at any time to another server, including its streams and the followers. Even when changing the identity of the data remains with the user, they belong to him fully. The identity follows the scheme https://gewählter_Name.tent.is/. Only the extension. Changes is the use of another application.

Tent.io as protocol supports the creation of applications by different post types. The post-type defines the capabilities of an application to be able to handle different types of data. Tent.is sets example on the status type that supports text messages up to 256 characters. In the documentation are more types than currently essay, photo album and predefined. The creation of other post types and the extension of existing types is also documented.

As the objective of defining your own types are few restrictions, many applications are possible from the current micro-blogging service to social platforms of all types and sophisticated developer tools. Tent perhaps should start with a style less to Twitter application to avoid using as a clone of the microblogging service will be ignored. The success of the platform will depend on the ability of the developer to put the infrastructure on the one hand far enough to allow a variety of applications, while ensuring an adequate level of security.
