JavaFX – now officially under Linux

This summer, an event that an unfortunate way to go unnoticed linux.org.ru. The version 2.2 platform JavaFX, from which are official support for Linux and Mac OS X. Additionally, there were the following new features:

  • canvas – the node type (node), allowing direct drawing in the style of HTML Canvas;
  • snapshots – the ability to “take a picture” part graph’a scene and put a “snapshot” in the image;
  • writable images – the possibility of direct manipulation of pixels



and more. The changes were made and the principle of sharing JavaFX – JavaFX is now an integral part of Java SE, and they will be distributed together (starting with Java 7u6 + JavaFX 2.2). Moreover, the next “big” version of JavaFX will wear number 8, and then lose all JavaFX own version, finally Having joined the Java SE. Also had time to release the adjustment 2.2.3, preview-release hardware platform ARM (based on the Java SE Embedded) and preview the visual interface builder Scene Builder.

JavaFX – a modern multi-platform toolkit for creating desktop and web applications using Java, is increasingly seen as a replacement for the aging Swing. JavaFX makes extensive use of the power of graphics accelerators, supports a declarative description of interfaces (FXML) and many multimedia formats. Starting with JavaFX 2.x, the possibilities of this toolkit is open to all, without exception, JVM-languages: the actual Java, and Scala, Groovy, Clojure, and so on. JavaFX development is conducted in an open project OpenJFX .
