Fedora 18: most of the updates require a reboot

Recently FESCo approved for implementation in the next, the eighteenth, the next release of Fedora revolutionary new product from the producer pulseaudio, systemd and journal. It is an off-line upgrades.

Now, all updates will be divided into two parts: the system updates and application. Last updated and will be put in the old way, but updates will be applied at reboot into a special mode of system updates and restart further back into normal mode.


To begin with, offers everything that brings desktop-file and appears on the menu, to consider the application, and everything else – upgrading the system. In the future, may be introduced additional clues in the metadata packages. Since most of the packages does not include desktop-files, it is obvious that any updates, including, for example, installing a different kernel, will require two reboots just to install the package.
