Debian has appeared auto mirrors

In the Debian distribution appeared mirror redirector.

Now, instead of having to choose the closest / fastest mirror hands, you can just add sources-list line

deb http://http.debian.net/debian

and the package manager when accessing this resource will be automatically redirected to the best mirror. In addition to / debian can be specified and / debian-archive, and / debian-security, and / debian-backports, all the rest (except for CD – it is a redirector does not support).


Mirror selection is made according to several criteria:

  • accessibility;
  • load (load balancing, announced the mirrors);
  • geographical location;
  • IP-address.
  • and others.
