Concern Samsung joined the Linux Foundation

Samsung has joined the Linux Foundation and became its eighth member of the platinum – is the highest level to date, the Fund’s support (for example, companies such as Nokia, Panasonic, Motorola and Google are the only members of the gold, and LG and Siemens – silver). According to Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Foundation, “this is a big day for Samsung and Linux.

The Linux kernel is used in many of the devices manufactured by Samsung, from phones to televisions and home appliances. On the Linux Foundation Corporation has been cooperating for several years in an effort to reduce development costs and support the core and of operating systems based on it. Samsung and Intel are now headed the development of an open platform for mobile devices Tizen.


As a platinum member, Samsung is now, according to Zemlin, “one of the leaders in a vast ecosystem that has developed around Linux». Linux Foundation looks forward to a long and fruitful cooperation with the concern.
