The change of power in the project Glibc, Ulrich Dreppera care of project management
by admin ·
Roland McGrath, founder of the system library Glibc, announced the dissolution of overseeing the development of Glibc steering committee, which will lead to the transfer of decision-making powers in the hands of the team’s active maintainers. The Committee agreed to its dissolution, arguing that formed the community of developers can provide self-regulation. The direction of policy development and the project will now be determined by consensus among the people directly involved in the development of Glibc.
Joseph Myers, one of the maintainers Glibc, enthusiasts invited to take part in the development of Glibc and pointed out that observing the rules of GNU and without departing from the established community standards and coding style, the participants in the development may qualify for the right to commit. In the future, it is possible the solution of all disputes with developers eglibc and gradual integration of the advanced features eglibc in glibc, which ultimately can lead to a merger of the two system libraries into a single project.
Among the approved maintainers marked Ronald McGrath, Ryan Arnold, Maxim somersaults, Joseph Myers, O’Donnell and Carlos Alexandre Oliva. It is noteworthy, but not in the list Dreppera Ulrich, which is marked on the site as the most influential Glibc developer, responsible for receiving patches and support of the project. The announcement of the dissolution of the committee expressed gratitude to Ulrich Drepperu for his contribution to Glibc, but not included in the new team of maintainers, due to his departure from Red Hat and the company can not spend much time on the project (work in RedHat Glibc meant spending the whole working time).
