Gimp 2.8 is nearing completion

With the release of version 2.7.4 the developers hope to be able to publish a version of the graphic artist, which will lead to the first release candidate of the upcoming version 2.8. New features in the current version including user interface improvements and several fixes.

Over three years have been published since the last stable version 2.6 of the main Gimp passed. A lack of developers and profound changes in the structure and temporarily slowed the progress of the demonstration application, the development never came to a standstill.

The current goal is to publish Gimp to 2.8 in January 2012. Another step completed, the developers now with the release of version 2.7.4.


The current version brings further adjustments to the surface. Thus, the riders have a single image-mode Fentser now also a button to close the range. In addition, the states of the individual modes are stored correctly in sessionrc. The Undo function of the Transform tool is now better understood. Moreover, can now optionally be stored color space information into BMP files. The loader can import PSD load paths and work.

Gimp 2.8 brings an optional single-window mode and uses Poppler PDF files to load and Cairo for many drawing operations. On the surface, was among other things, the move to Cairo and further promoted the cage transformation tool that was developed as part of the Summer of Code 2010 was added. The mouse buttons can now trigger definable actions. The Script-Fu server also knows now also IPv6. In addition, there were many other changes, corrections and new translations.
