The latest version of the Rails web framework has been written primarily performance improvements on the flags.

With version 3.1, the Rails developers the latest release of the popular web framework have been released. Kernelmaintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman has released the stable kernel 3.0.4.

The new stable kernel contains the usual bug fixes and updates to drivers, Kroah-Hartman suggests in his email to the kernel list the update. In addition to the current version Kroah-Hartman also has the kernel 2.6.32 released . Last but not least is the version 2.6.33.19 to have.

Linux distributor Mandriva has released the new version of Mandriva 2011th Mandriva 2011 is concentrated entirely on KDE, which was extended by a number of its applications and leads them with a well-integrated suite of programs.

Mandriva 2011 offers a number of changes in publication policy, which probably also on the turbulent decline of the last time. The project “Ubuntu Friendly” wants to identify computers that work well with Ubuntu.

As Ubuntu enthusiast Graner Amber in her blog reports, the project seeks “Ubuntu Friendly” by feedback from Ubuntu users. This is not just about reports of advanced users. According to Graner, the project also interested in feedback from Ubuntu newcomers. They should report on how Ubuntu runs 11:10 on their computers. The goal of Ubuntu Friendly is to create an open database with Ubuntu-compatible hardware for each version of Ubuntu.

In Europe, the decision of the Court of Justice banned the supply of phones Samsung Galaxy S, S II, Ace because of patent infringement Apple. The ban comes into force on 15 October.

The patent, called “Managing photos on your mobile device,” describes a method for scrolling with your fingers the Gallery on the screen. Judge Brinkman also said that the decision may be reversed in case of removal of the device software that violates the patent Apple, or in case of upgrade devices to Android 3.x, where the patent is not violated.

Samsung has published the code to a new open-source DRM driver for its EXYNOS4210 System-On-a-Chip. The EXYNOS4210 has impressive 3D graphics capabilities, uses the dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, and is used in various smart-phones. The Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the smart-phones using the Exynos 4210 SoC. Samsung is hoping to push this DRM driver into the mainline Linux kernel.

Samsung engineers previously released two revisions of this driver code, which received some feedback from developers over the past month, and they have now released the polished (third version) that incorporates the changes. This Samsung DRM driver with kernel mode-setting support uses the Intel GEM (Graphics Execution Manager) for buffer management and DMA APIs for buffer allocation. FIMD is only supported right now but HDMI support is said to come at some point in the future.

Available for download as an installer, and files with binary files beta version of QCAD 3 Professional for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

List of changes in beta 3 QCAD as of August 24 is very significant, here are some important points:

• read DXF / DWG to version 2.5 in 2010, recording a version 12 to version 2010;
• improvement in exports to SVG;
• added some primitives, TrueType support in the inscriptions;
• improved with scans from different positions;

The founder of the famous news site Slashdot, Rob Malda, has announced his retirement known. After 14 years, he considers the time has come for someone else directs the fortunes of Slashdot.

Malda Slashdot as 1997 brought into being, he could not have imagined that he thus created a cult site. He wrote the system together with some friends in college. It has been implemented in Perl, and even if it matured over the years and renewed, Slashdot, his appearance has never changed.

The site grew rapidly. She had so many readers that a website that was linked in an article ever could collapse under the onslaught. This is still the occasional phenomenon has since been called the Slashdot effect.
