Hugin 2011.0.0 release

A year after the latest stable release a new version of a cross-platform tool for creating and working with panoramic images. The new version seen following innovations:

  • Own detection tool of control points has been greatly improved
  • Improved quick view of the panorama
  • Improved work with stereo images or pictures taken with it

GNU Prolog 1.4.0 release

GNU Prolog – it’s free compiler for the programming language Prolog.

The main changes the new version:

  • Strict_iso flag is enabled by default (was off in previous versions).
  • If strict_iso prolog flag is off, the terms of the type callable_term no longer be used in place of predicate_indicator.
  • Predicate predicate_property / 2 no longer accepts predicate_indicator as the first argument. Provided by the predicate ‘$ predicate_property_pi’ / 2 implements the old behavior predicate_property / 2.

Google makes online converter SWF to HTML5

Blog Google Code project, it was reported Swiffy – online converter SWF to HTML5. Initially, the project was designed to play flash on platforms where there is no “native” flash player, such as iOS. Recommended browsers based on WebKit, suitable as Firefox and Opera.

While supported by the “subset of the SWF 8 and ActionScript 2.0», is recommended if possible, convert all to SWF 5 (and even he is not fully supported).

He same Adobe Converter - Wallaby – Swiffy differs in that is focused on creating not read, but compact and quick file and use, primarily as a Web service.

Imagination: Create slideshows in just a few steps

With Imagination in a few steps we can create different types of sequences of images for presentations or create videos with our pictures. It is a lightweight and easy to use, is available for the Linux and FreeBSD, written in C and built with the GTK +2 toolkit. It does not demand many dependencies: only requires ffmpeg for video production and libsox for the audio.

Instantbird: client for various social networks

A few days ago we told you about Oriole , application for GNU / Linux desktop in which we could connect to Twitter and Identi.ca our accounts. Today another young project commented: Instantbird. It is a desktop client for several platforms (GNU / Linux, Windows and Mac OS X) that enables you to connect a multitude of social networks and even can be run from a USB stick.

We said that Instantbird supports multiple networks and platforms: AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, Facebook, Twitter, ICQ, IRC, etc.

Dutch open source action plan is having an effect

Half of the public administrations of the Netherlands has an open-source strategy, notes a recent study.

Since the Netherlands in 2007 action plan had decided to change after the administration of free software and open standards has, where possible, observed the program office ‘Nederland Open in connection based “(NOiV) implementation of the guidelines. For the third time the agency has now released an annual survey that shows the state of affairs. It refers to the year 2010.

According to this new ranking , 51% of the administrations since developed an open-source strategy or working on it. 53% have plans to use more free software. 66% support the open document format, a total of 69% have already made it to the option for their employees. On the desktop, set a 31% open-source solutions.

Build Scientific Linux 0.9.3 supports Boxgrinder

The developers have updated their Boxgrinder build tool for VM images to version 0.9.3 and the associated soft-appliance to version 1.6.

Build thanks to a plugin generates Boxgrinder alongside images from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Fedora and CentOS is now also based system images from Scientific Linux, Red Hat also the code on. Thanks to some bugs fixed, the user can now build deploy Amazon Machine Images (AMI) with EBS-end for all regions and Amazon. CfP for the first LinuxCon Europe in Prague

SymPy 0.7.0

After more than a year of active development came a new version of sympy – Python library for symbolic-computation.

Authors SymPy aim to create a full computer algebra system, written entirely in Python, while keeping the code as much as possible understandable and extensible.

Now the project includes about 86 000 lines of code, and a number of its features include:

  • perform arithmetic operations on polynomials
  • simplification of polynomials
  • opening parenthesis
  • factorization
  • differentiation
  • integration
  • finding limits
  • solution of equations and systems of equations
  • work with matrices
  • much more .

Version 0.7.0 was made ​​a lot of improvements, with a complete list of which can be found here .

It should be noted that at the moment for SymPy requires Python 2 or later version 2.4, but with the next version after 0.7.0 – Python 2.5. Support Python 3 will be implemented in version 0.8.0.

GitHub opened the library Linguist

This library is used by hosting the source code for working with GitHub source code files. It allows you to:

  • determine the programming language, which is written the source code file for extensions;
  • in case of problems, to expand the definition is the definition of the contents of the file;
  • generate statistics on languages, including visual forms;
  • organize syntax highlighting (used rail around Pygment);
  • recognize the files on the MIME-type, be excluded from processing certain types of files that are the result of different utilities in one.
