Ubuntu 11.04

Today, as planned, released on the next release of Ubuntu, now numbered 4.11 and code-named “Natty Narwhal” (Elegant Narwhal).

The distribution:

  • Kernel 2.6.38.2
  • LibreOffice 3.3.2
  • gcc 4.5
  • Python 2.7
  • X.org 1.10.0 and Mesa 7.10.1
  • Firefox 4.0 as the default browser
  • Evolution 2.32.2



Perhaps the most important feature of this release is the Unity as a standard shell.

The main features of Unity:

  • Full support for keyboard navigation
  • Global menu
  • Startup Manager
  • Dash
  • Support for touchscreen.
