GCC 4.6: Good news for developers

The newly released GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) 4.6 contains many new features and changes.

After almost a year to develop the release notes are a mile long. The compiler in version 4.6 promises improved check for command line options when it comes to the left. The library Libquadmath has arrived and promises precise mathematical functions. For the purpose of streamlining is the support for some systems and not longer part of the compiler or ports they are on the hit list.


These include the Argonaut ARC processor architectures, National Semiconductor and Motorola 68HC11/68HC12 CRX. The above architectures have received the status of “obsolete” and if there are no unexpected storm of protests in the next GCC version completely removed. This is what happened it is in this new version with all marked as obsolete in 4.5 technologies and systems.
