Fedora 8 Decommissioned

by admin ·

Today at 1400 hours, front line Kommando Linux units officially decommissioned Fedora 8 and began transition to Fedora 9.

Fedora 8 was deployed with KL front line units on 9 Nov 2007, and has provided excellent service, finishing with an overall rating of 4. With it’s decommission today, it ends its streak as the longest deployed Fedora OS in KL desktop service. While the continued service of F8 can be fully attributed to failed field trails for F9, it doesn’t take way the fact that “Werewolf” was a solid release.

Fedora 8, dismissed.

TR2N (Tron 2) , I can’t wait!

by admin ·

By now the internets is buzzing with the news about the bootlegged trailer for TR2N (Tron2 ). It’s a really bad cellular phone video, however, what it lacks in quality it more than makes up for in content. I would like to say here is the link to view the video, I can’t. Disney would prefer you not see it and has moved quickly to take it down where they find it. Google is your friend and wont let you down.

Tron is for me what it is for a lot of people, it’s the movie that got me interested in computers. I named my first computer Tron and my first server Sark (I was saving MCP for the dual cpu I was building at the time). So it’s fair to say that I hold this movie in high regard.

My first thought on hearing about the trailer was “#$%#! hollywood will screw it up.” They have a long history of taking anything good and ruining it in order to extract every last dollar. After seeing the trailer however, I am hopeful.

Now we wait and see.

24 hours with Fedora 9

by admin ·

I’ve had my Fedora 9 install up for 24 hours now and no issues save one.

NetworkManager flaked out, not allowing an internet connection on start-up. Looking at the Fedora Forums shows I am not the only one with this problem. Disabling NetworkManager and enabling network resolved the issue.
Another issue that has me holding off upgrading on my main box is the nVidia driver problem. This is a “no go” issue for me, and no ETA on resolution.

Fedora 9 – First Look

by admin ·

Just a quick post.

Just installed Fedora 9 (Sulphur). My first impression is good, they’ve made allot of little changes that that anyone familiar with Fedora will notice right away. The install was smooth and I’ve encountered only one issue so far.
